Friends with Benefits, Theo

 

Friends with Benefits에 새롭게 등장한 에스퍼 태오가 정신계 에스퍼라니, 상당히 흥미로운 설정이다.  

가이드버스 세계관에서 정신계 에스퍼는 육체적인 힘보다는 인간의 정신, 감정, 기억, 의식 등에 영향을 미치는 초능력자를 뜻한다.  

특히 태오가 한선우에게 다시 방문해도 되겠느냐고 물었던 장면을 생각하면, 앞으로 두 사람의 관계가 더욱 복잡해질 가능성이 있어 보인다  

1. 정신계 에스퍼의 대표적인 능력
독심술  : 상대방의 생각이나 속마음을 읽는 능력
감정감지 : 두려움, 사랑, 불안, 질투등의 감정을 감지
정신간섭 : 상대방의 판단이나 행동에 영향을 미침
기억조작 : 기억을 지우거나 바꾸거나 떠올리게 함
환각유도 : 실제로 존재하지않는 장면이나 감각을 경험하게 함
정신방어 : 타인의 정신 공격을 차단하거나 저항  

물론 모든 정신계 에스퍼가 이 능력을 전부 사용하는 것은 아니다. 작품마다 능력의 범위와 한계가 다르다.

2. 정신계 에스퍼가 특별히 위험한 이유
정신계 능력의 가장 무서운 점은 상대방이 능력을 사용당하고 있다는 사실조차 모를 수 있다는 것이다.  

예를 들어 태오가 독심 능력을 가지고 있다면 선우가 겉으로 표현하지 않는 불안이나 두려움을 알아차릴 수도 있을 것이다. 반대로 감정에 간섭할 수 있다면 선우가 느끼는 호감이 진짜 감정인지, 능력의 영향인지 혼란스러워지는 전개도 가능하다.

3. 태오와 한선우의 관계에 적용해 보면 내가 특히 주목하는 부분은 태오가 선우에게 "또 방문해도 되겠습니까?" 라고 물었고, 선우가 다시 오라고 하자 태오가 살짝 미소 지었다.  

이 장면은 세 가지로 해석할 수 있다

1. 태오가 선우에게 개인적인 호기심이나 호감을 느끼기 시작했다.  

2. 정신계 능력으로 선우의 내면에서 무언가 특별한 것을 감지했다.  

3. 선우에게 접근해야 할 다른 목적이 있다.

물론 아직은 어디까지나 추측이다.
이 작품의 태오에게 구체적으로 어떤 정신계 능력이 있는지는 확인되지 않았기 때문이다  

4. 내가 가장 궁금한 점 태오는 상대방의 생각을 읽는 정신계 에스퍼일까, 아니면 정신을 조종하는 에스퍼인가?  이 둘은 완전히 다르다.  

특히 선우에게 이미 사랑하는 에스퍼가 있다는 점에서, 태오가 독심 능력을 가졌다면 선우의 숨겨진 두려움을 누구보다 먼저 알아차리는 인물이 될 수도 있겠다.  

나는 태오가 단순한 삼각관계의 경쟁자가 아니라, 선우의 마음을 가장 정확하게 이해하면서 기존 관계를 흔드는 인물로 등장할 가능성도 흥미롭다고 생각한다.

The introduction of Theo as a mental-type Esper in Friends with Benefits is a particularly intriguing development.

In the Guideverse universe, a mental-type Esper is someone whose supernatural abilities affect the human mind, emotions, memories, and consciousness rather than relying primarily on physical strength.

Thinking back to the scene where Theo asked Han Sunwoo if he could visit again, I can't help but wonder whether their relationship will become even more complicated as the story unfolds.

1. Typical Abilities of a Mental-Type Esper

Telepathy / Mind Reading: The ability to read another person's thoughts or innermost feelings.

Emotion Detection: The ability to sense emotions such as fear, love, anxiety, and jealousy.

Mental Influence: The ability to influence another person's judgment or behavior.

Memory Manipulation: The ability to erase, alter, or bring back memories.

Illusion Inducement: The ability to make someone experience things or sensations that do not actually exist.

Mental Defense: The ability to block or resist mental attacks from others.

Of course, not every mental-type Esper possesses all these abilities. Their powers and limitations vary depending on the story.

2. Why Mental-Type Espers Are Particularly Dangerous

The most frightening aspect of mental abilities is that the person being affected may not even realize that someone is using a power on them.

For example, if Theo possesses mind-reading abilities, he might be able to recognize Sunwoo's hidden anxieties and fears, even those Sunwoo never expresses outwardly.

On the other hand, if Theo can manipulate emotions, the story could take an even more unsettling turn. Sunwoo might begin to question whether the affection he feels is genuine or the result of Theo's influence.

3. How This Could Affect Theo and Han Sunwoo's Relationship

What particularly caught my attention was the scene where Theo asked Sunwoo, "May I visit again?"

When Sunwoo told him he was welcome to return, Theo gave a slight smile.

I think this moment could be interpreted in three different ways.

- Personal Interest or Attraction: Theo may have begun developing a personal curiosity about Sunwoo, or perhaps even romantic feelings for him.

- A Discovery Through His Mental Abilities: Theo may have sensed something unusual or special within Sunwoo's mind.

- A Hidden Motive: Theo may have another reason for wanting to get closer to Sunwoo.

Of course, these are only theories for now, since the exact nature of Theo's mental abilities has yet to be revealed.

4. What I'm Most Curious About

Is Theo a mental-type Esper who can read people's minds, or is he someone who can actually control them?

Those are two completely different kinds of power.

Considering that Sunwoo already has an Esper he loves, if Theo possesses mind-reading abilities, he might become the first person to recognize Sunwoo's deepest, unspoken fears.

What I find especially intriguing is the possibility that Theo won't simply be introduced as a romantic rival in a love triangle.

Instead, he could become someone who understands Sunwoo's heart more accurately than anyone else, and through that understanding, begins to shake the foundations of Sunwoo's existing relationship.

That possibility makes Theo's introduction all the more fascinating to me.
